December 5-12

2004 Scores

TOURNAMENT FORMAT

The 2004 AMF Bowling World Cup international finals will comprise a series of three stages of eliminations, as follows:

Stage 1 - Qualifying Round
All bowlers roll 24 games, and the total pins knocked down by each determine the players’ standings.

Stage 2 - Intermediate Round

The field of bowlers is cut to the highest scoring 24 men and 24 women who then go on to roll 8 more games.    Each bowler’s pinfall from Stage 1 is carried forward and added to the total pinfall from Stage 2 to determine standings.

Stage 3 – Single-Elimination Head-to-Head Matches
The field of bowlers is narrowed to the top eight scores in the men and women’s divisions.    Each of the top eight is assigned a “seeding” rank, based on total pinball after 32 games.    (The man and woman with the most pins become the No. 1 seeds in their respective divisions; the bowlers in each division with the second-best total scores become the No. 2 seeds, and so forth.)

The top eight men and women advance to the single-elimination phase, and all pinball totals from the two previous rounds are dropped.    Players are pitted against each other in head-to-head, best of three games quarterfinal matches in their divisions, with the winners advancing to the semi-final round.

Those players winning their best three games in the semifinal advance to challenge each other for the 2004 AMF Bowling World Cup titles in the championship round.  The championship round will similarly feature a head-to-head, best of three games match for the contestants.

The winner of this round will be declared the 2004 AMF Bowling World Cup champion. A men and women’s champion will be crowned.
