The World Ranking system is designed to attract top players, sponsors, television companies and other media to important tournaments and to improve the quality and strength of ten pin bowling by conducting a World Ranking Masters once a year.
The WRS will involve each of the three zones in the world - American, Asian and European. The calendar period will be January 1 to December 31 beginning with the year 2000. Each Zone will decide which events in their zone will be included in the zone ranking.
The top eight ladies and top eight men in each zone as of December 31, 2000 will take part in the WRS Masters event. The WRS Masters will be conducted each year at a site to be determined. The 24 players will bowl a 23 game round robin with a bonus of 10 for a win and 5 for a tie. After the 23 games the top eight players will bowl a 7 game round robin with the previous pinfall carried forward. The top three players after the second round robin will take part in a stepladder starting from scratch. A two game total pins final will be played to determine the World's #1 ranked player.
Selection of American Zone Tournaments
The American Zone does not have a tour similar to the ones conducted in the Asian and European Zones so they have included events that will ensure players in all regions of the zone equal opportunity to obtain points in the ranking.
Each tournament has a tournament rank or weight. For example, finishing 10th in a tournament of rank 2 would earn you 70 points, twice as many points as an equivalent finish in a tournament of rank 1.
